Controller

The Controller is responsible for managing the ongoing financial operations of the Firm. This position will be in-office every day, with the possible option of one remote day per week in the future. 

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all financial activities and reporting for the firm, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Prepare monthly and annual financial statements, including monthly reports for origination, billable hours, cash receipts, etc.
  • Monthly preparation of Partnership distributions
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the firm’s financial records and reports
  • Payroll preparation and processing, including PTO updates and balance tracking
  • 401K contribution processing and transmissions
  • Management of the IOLTA account
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Credit card reconciliations and receipt verification
  • Complete vendor requests for enrollment in their systems
  • Onboarding new employees into payroll, health insurance and other benefits
  • Accounts payable and accounts receivable, including posting payments and collections
  • Business license tracking and renewals
  • Attorney license tracking and renewals
  • Monthly preparation of draft bills with the assistance of the Billing Coordinators
  • Tracking of budgets related to firm projects
  • Providing financial analysis and details as requested to Partners and in Partnership meetings
  • Work in coordination with firm CPA for finalizing all year end reports for tax preparation
  • Assist with annual application and renewals of insurance policies
  • Assist with vendor relationships and renewals of office equipment contracts.
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor or Partners

Qualifications/Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field, Master’s Degree in related field preferred
  • 5?7 years of experience in legal accounting and administration
  • Strong technology skills in accounting software, preferably in Tabs or other legal billing software
  • Knowledge of electronic billing platforms
  • Excellent attention to details as well as analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Strong technology skills using Microsoft Office, expert level Excel skills
  • Experience working in a paperless environment preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Team player with a positive “can?do” approach
  • A general and growing knowledge of Firm products and services in the practice area
  • Project and time management skills
  • The ability to handle stress and manage multiple priorities
