Our client is seeking a talented, dynamic, and experienced Director of Operations to oversee their manufacturing site located in Agawam, MA. The successful candidate will be committed to pushing the boundaries of technology, performance, and innovation while ensuring production and operational excellence to meet monthly targets.
Our client specializes in RF/microwave package integration, laser welding, laser cutting, electroless Ni/gold plating, CNC machining, hermetic sealing, and medical device manufacturing. Working together, we employ proprietary technologies, best practices engineering, and specialized manufacturing techniques to produce hermetic connectors and electronic packaging that perform in the world’s most extreme environments.
This facility is ISO9001 certified and compliant with U.S. government DFAR and ITAR requirements.
The Position
This individual will provide oversight of all day-to-day manufacturing activities, focusing on Operations and Production to ensure that monthly targets are consistently achieved. We are seeking a strong, “hands-on” leader who will manage a team of 70+. This role will report directly to the General Manager. Major responsibilities will include directing and coordinating production activities while driving productivity and quality.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operational activities to ensure production efficiency and effective management of resources, with a strong emphasis on meeting monthly sales and COGS forecasts.
- Assist in the implementation of an ERP/MRP system to enhance operational efficiency and inform production decisions, directly contributing to meeting monthly targets.
- Partner with Sales, Marketing, and Business Development teams to maintain open communication between divisions and customers, aligning efforts to achieve monthly goals.
- Manage key performance indicators (KPIs) to optimize operational performance and ensure that production metrics are aligned with monthly targets.
- Guide production supervisors/managers in troubleshooting production challenges and optimizing labor, materials, and equipment efficiency to meet deadlines.
- Foster a cohesive team environment by developing effective communication and accountability strategies to drive employee engagement focused on production outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with ISO9001, AS9100, ISO13485, NADCAP, ITAR, and FDA requirements.
- Minimize customer returns and scrap percentages, contributing to overall operational efficiency.
- Champion lean and continuous improvement methodologies to identify and eliminate inefficiencies throughout the plant, aligning processes with monthly production goals.
- Lead initiatives to cultivate a strong Safety Culture and ensure EHS compliance within the organization.
Qualifications
- Industry Experience: 8-10 years of professional experience leading a manufacturing organization, with a strong background in production and operations. Experience in the defense or aerospace industry is preferable.
- ERP/MRP Experience: Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems in a job shop environment is essential.
- Ability to Perform Under Pressure: Strong capability to meet deadlines and drive performance in a fast-paced environment.
- Change Management: Proven experience successfully managing teams in dynamic settings.
- Continuous Improvement: Track record of applying continuous improvement principles, including Lean Manufacturing.
- Technical Skills: Experience with processes and equipment such as CNC machining, plating, assembly, and laser welding.
- Communication and Leadership: Superior communication skills with the ability to influence and motivate teams effectively.
- Quality & Safety: Experience managing safety, environmental performance, and high-quality standards.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Engineering.
