JOB TITLE: Book Advertising and Promotions Specialist
Responsible for developing and implementing a digital and print 15-month advertising and promotions plan that includes a quarterly discount plan and Amazon deals in order to achieve the monthly and quarterly sales projections. This position is responsible for Publishing advertising and marketing newsletter.
The Book Promotions and Reseller Specialist develops a deep knowledge of product catalog of front- and backlist titles and upcoming pipeline. They work closely with project editors to plan, manage and launch a comprehensive promo plans for new titles and with advertised institutes and business development to plan the bookstore for exhibits and tradeshows.
The Book Advertising and Promotions Specialist is responsible for sustaining and developing new reseller relations, managing advertising and campaign portals for a variety of resellers, including Amazon Vendor Central and holding buyer and advertising conversations aimed at increasing resellers’ purchase of our retail products.
The position works closely with supervisor and in collaboration with finance to review and analyze title performance to identify opportunities for sales and buyers to identify opportunities for market expansion, partnership and/or customer success support with retail products.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
15-month advertising and promotions plan and project managment
- Develops a deep knowledge of the brands and imprints and their catalogs and uses that knowledge to inform all aspects of the book sales and promotions work.
- Works closely with supervisor to plan and finalize the 15-month advertising and promotions strategy; incorporates new book releases into the plan.
- Conducts a quarterly review of sales performance of all items to adapt the plan based upon sales trends.
- Manages the email database in HubSpot.
- Works with supervisor and the support of design and editorial team to publish the email campaign using HubSpot
- Responsible for project managing all print advertising materials from concept to mailing; works with vendors and the design and editorial team to produce print campaign materials including catalogs, postcards and fliers.
- Knows monthly retail revenue goals and collaborates with supervisor to develop and then execute on sales activities intended to achieve monthly, quarterly and annual sales goals for retail products.
Reseller and Vendor Relations
- Maintains updated vendor catalogs and associated pricing schedules.
- Maintains orderly, easy to access and update filing system.
- Conducts consistent buyer conversations/presentations/sales pitches with major resellers in order sustain regularly purchasing from major resellers and achieve annual sales targets for front- and backlist titles.
- Accurately uses item set-up in vendor portals, per the vendor, to prepare, present, maintain and update all titles to the vendor accounts on a regular basis.
- Maintains a regular sales calls and outcome review schedule in order to sell our retail books through established, high-volume resellers and to grow low-volume resellers
- Actively manages reseller account health based upon a set of established health metrics.
- Establishes strong collaborative relationships with key personnel.
- Regularly discusses opportunities and challenges with the accounts in order to sustain and increase account sales and support book sales forecasts.
- Prepares sales call and title submission materials, including PowerPoints and excel grids.
- Learns and continuously increases knowledge to maximize the use of Amazon Vendor ad campaigns and track sales and performance.
Sales and Promotions Campaign Project Management
- Responsible for managing the seasonal selling schedule and prioritizing sales initiatives for the selling season.
- Works closes with supervisor to plan and manage advertising and promotion campaigns for top resellers, including Amazon, Follett, Ingram, Barnes and Nobles and others top resellers.
- Provides clear and timely communication on all projects that is inclusive for all key stakeholders and at internal meetings including project launch, timelines and goals.
- Collaborates with supervisor to manage the day-to-day vendor portal activities to maximize channel sales for front list, back list and re-orders.
- Collaborates with editors, designers and programs on managing Amazon storefront.
SALES PERFORMANCE
- Runs weekly and monthly retail sales reports to inform decisions and monitor projections to actuals.
- Analyze title and customer performance to identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with internal teams leads to plan key title promotions designed to meet annual growth targets.
- Work with marketing department on seasonal sales materials, including specific materials for sales representative and conferences and trade shows.
- Works closely with Marketing and Professional Learning to identify and attend relevant trade show.
- Collaborate with marketing and division teams to ensure sales presentations and promotional materials are polished and of high quality.
- Collaborates with Marketing and Publishing to create and execute on a publicity plan for selected titles, particularly front list titles and best sellers.
- Participates in in-house meetings (i.e., launch, planning, presales, sales conference, weekly marketing, and Monthly Strategic Business Planning).
- Provides regular business and title feedback to via written reports, new title call reports, and in-person discussions.
- Works closely with inventory management to secure appropriate stock and works with the retailers and wholesalers on emerging opportunities.
Qualifications:
- College degree or equivalent work experience.
- Preferred prior experience with and passion for sales and learning about sales and advertising.
- Familiar with or able to quickly learn and demonstrate proficiency in using, understanding promotions and advertising requirements and optimizing Amazon Vendor Portal as well as other reseller vendor portals and managing ad campaigns
- Knowledge of and experience with HubSpot preferred; quickly able to develop mastery level competence in using HubSpot to send advertising and transactional emails.
- Ability to quickly learn to build a project plan and manage that scope and timelines and consistently meet strict deadlines.
- Able to follow directions for writing a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and to recognize when an SOP needs to be written.
- Strong verbal communication skills, including able to clearly articulate ideas.
