Senior Tax Analyst

As a Senior Tax Analyst , you will be responsible for transaction taxes (e.g., cigarette and tobacco, sales and use, soft drink, fuel, gross receipts and bottle deposits). In addition, you will also support other tax areas and handle multiple concurrent projects involving the company and its affiliates. 

We are looking for someone who is proactive, thoughtful, self-motivated and who has attention to detail to ensure that assigned work is done efficiently, timely, and accurately.

Responsibilities

·         Efficiently, timely, and accurately prepare/review cigarette and tobacco compliance obligations and other transaction tax returns, including processing of payments and filing 

·         Complete timely and accurate account reconciliations on tax accrual balance sheet accounts to ensure that balances are consistent with returns filed/payments made and any special issues.

·         Interact with finance, strategic sourcing, procurement, operations – warehouse, payroll and IT departments regarding issues with financial reporting as it relates to tax. Learn to troubleshoot errors with respect to tax sensitive data such as coding or compliance errors.

·         Work with other tax team members to ensure departmental deadlines are met and objectives are achieved.

·         Work with tax authorities to resolve the issue favorably for company.

·         Prepare memorandum, matrixes and other correspondence summarizing research using online tax software, internet, and other research tools and reaching applicable conclusions.

·         Support the audit defense 

·         Proactively maintain transaction tax knowledge and professional development

·         Proactively manage the company’s business licensing and annual report obligations as well as prepare memorandum, matrixes and other correspondence summarizing research and reaching applicable conclusions.

Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s Degree; Accounting or Finance degree preferred.

·         3-5 years of relevant experience with a public accounting firm or a corporation with significant transaction, employment and other “above-the-line” tax compliance obligations .

·         Advanced degrees, such as MST, MSA, JD or professional designations, such as CPA, bar or CMI, are preferred.

·         Basic tax compliance and familiarity with audit support.

·         Functional understanding of basic tax and accounting principles and an ability to grasp more thorough understanding through job responsibilities.

·         Proficient in Excel, CCH or RIA tax research software.

·         Experience with Oracle, general ledger software systems, or sales and use tax compliance software (Vertex, Sabrix or similar) preferred.

·         Ability to work cross-functionally and build relationships.

·         Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills.
