CNC Machinist

Job purpose

Under direction of the Production Supervisor, perform diversified duties to include setup and operation of a CNC equipment, perform machine offsets and tool changes, support cellular machining operations and help with development of people and process within the assigned area.

Duties and responsibilities
 

  • Perform full CNC setup including removal and proper disposition of the material, tooling, fixturing and information related to the previous setup, installation and qualification of tooling, fixtures and programs for the new setup, qualification of the part visually and dimensionally to the blueprint specifications and qualification of the setup as production ready.    
  • Work with cross-functional team to support design for manufacturability and new product development activities and to help drive ongoing continuous improvement activities related to the machining process.
  • Support the onboarding of new employees in the assigned area and help drive development plans with specific manufacturing related training elements.  
  • Load, Process, and unload parts for various routine CNC milling or turning operations.
  • Operators may be assigned to run multiple pieces of equipment at the same time.
  • Maintain standard operation of CNC equipment and perform basic machine offsets to ensure that manufactured parts conform to blueprint specifications.
  • Continuously monitor parts for visual defects including burrs, nicks, dents, or scratches and correct as needed.
  • Change tools per tool life management schedule or as needed to maintain burr free, visually acceptable parts that conform dimensionally to the blueprint.
  • Perform periodic inspections using basic gages including micrometer, caliper, go/no-go pins, indicators and other basic fixtures as required.
  • Perform various preventive maintenance activities including daily inspection of equipment to identify and or prevent possible issues.
  • Maintain disciplined 6S checklist routines to ensure a safe and clean working environment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the production supervisor.

Qualifications
 

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar or manufacturing environment.
  • Successful completion of related CNC Courses or on the job training with specific examples of application and experience.
  • HS Diploma.
  • Ability to follow written instructions and understanding of blueprint reading.
  • Proficient communication skills including verbal and written with ability to work within a cross-functional group to include operators and inspectors; design, manufacturing, and quality engineers; various levels of management within the organization.

Working conditions

Exposure to shop elements making conditions less desirable than usually found in an office.

  • Standing – 8 Hours per day (or more)
  • Walking – 6 to 8 Hours per day
  • Lifting (below shoulder) – 30 to 50 lbs. – frequently
  • Lifting (above shoulder) – 30 to 50 lbs. – frequently
  • Push/Pull – 30 to 50 lbs. – frequently
  • Stooping/kneeling/bending – 2 hours per day – occasionally
  • Must be able to consistently operate a productivity machine for a minimum of 6 hours per day.
  • Must be able to communicate and exchange information with other members of the organization verbally, nonverbally, and in writing.
  • Must be able to consistently operate a productivity machine for a minimum of 6 hours per day.
