Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accounting Manager with experience in nonprofit accounting and MaineCare or Medicare billing. This position plays a key role in managing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and providing strategic financial insights to support our mission. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of nonprofit financial accounting, billing processes, and experience in working with MaineCare or Medicare.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Management & Reporting:

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements for internal and external reporting purposes.
  • Manage monthly and year-end closing processes, ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards (GAAP).
  • Prepare financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Review and analyze financial data to ensure accuracy and compliance with organizational policies and relevant regulations.
  • MaineCare/Medicare Billing:

  • Manage MaineCare and Medicare billing processes to ensure timely and accurate submission of claims in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Review, verify, and reconcile billing records for accuracy and completeness, ensuring proper documentation and compliance.
  • Coordinate with the billing department to resolve any issues related to claims, denials, or payments.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in MaineCare, Medicare, and other relevant billing and reimbursement policies, ensuring the organization is in compliance.
  • Compliance & Audits:

  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations related to nonprofit accounting, MaineCare, and Medicare billing.
  • Assist with internal and external audits, providing required documentation and explanations as needed.
  • Maintain and update internal controls to safeguard the integrity of financial reporting and billing processes.
  • Team Leadership & Development:

  • Supervise and mentor accounting team members, providing guidance and support in daily tasks and professional development.
  • Develop and implement best practices for accounting and billing processes, continuously improving efficiency and accuracy.
  • Coordinate cross-departmental communication to support financial operations and maintain organizational goals.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting:

  • Assist in the development and monitoring of annual budgets, ensuring alignment with financial goals and objectives.
  • Provide financial insights and analysis to support decision-making, helping to optimize resource allocation.

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit accounting, with a focus on MaineCare or Medicare billing.
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, GAAP, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with MaineCare or Medicare billing, including familiarity with reimbursement policies, claim processing, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to nonprofit organizations and healthcare billing.
  • Experience with audit preparation and coordination.
  • Familiarity with Medicaid billing processes specific to MaineCare.
