Job Description:
The Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. This role involves managing accounting. financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls to support the organization’s strategic goals, reporting to the Agency President.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and ensure compliance with US GAAP and relevant accounting standards; provide financial reports, analysis, and insights to support decision-making processes.
  • Accounting Operations: Lead month-end close processes and oversee all agency accounting.
  • Accounts Receivables: Direct Bill Commission Download, Agency Bill Payments, other income and/or deposits
  • Accounts payable: payables to carriers, brokers, vendors, expenses, and commissions to producers/brokers
  • Reconciliation: Direct bill, premiums payable, producer, parent company, bank
  • Accounting: Payroll, journal entries, adjustments with parent company
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Developing and managing the annual budgeting process in collaboration with department heads. Monitor and analyze budget variances.
  • Internal Controls: Establish and maintain effective internal control procedures to safeguard assets and ensure the integrity of financial information. Conduct regular reviews of financial processes to identify areas for improvement and efficiency.
  • Financial Compliance: Ensure compliance with regulations and reporting requirements. Collaborate with the parent company and external auditors to facilitate annual audits and address audit findings.
  • Treasury: Oversee cash flow management, including monitoring liquidity and optimizing working capital. Develop and implement cash management policies and procedures.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5-10 years’ experience in insurance accounting/finance role.
  • Proficient in the use of Applied Systems’ EPIC
  • Previous success in a fast-paced, high-growth, metrics-driven, business.
  • Possesses the ability and knowledge to anticipate needs and minimize exposure and risks.
  • Experience and knowledge in accounting for property & casualty insurance
