Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Director of Finance to lead our finance department in a healthcare setting. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing financial teams, overseeing month-end close processes, budgeting, and ensuring the accuracy and compliance of our yearly audit. The Director of Finance will be responsible for maintaining the financial health of the organization, providing leadership and strategic direction to the finance team, and ensuring the timely and accurate reporting of financial results.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Management:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of financial professionals, including accountants and analysts.
- Ensure the finance team is aligned with departmental goals and organizational objectives.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture, ensuring the team’s continuous professional growth and development.
- Conduct performance evaluations, set individual goals, and provide ongoing feedback.
Month-End Close:
- Oversee and manage the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Coordinate with other departments to gather necessary information for accurate closing.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies or issues during the close process, ensuring all financial transactions are correctly recorded.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls during the close process.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Lead the development of annual budgets and financial forecasts in collaboration with departmental leaders.
- Monitor actual performance against budgeted figures and provide detailed variance analysis.
- Ensure the budgeting process is aligned with the overall strategic goals of the healthcare organization.
- Regularly review and adjust forecasts to ensure accuracy and make necessary recommendations.
Yearly Audit & Compliance:
- Manage the yearly audit process, coordinating with external auditors and ensuring timely completion.
- Ensure all financial statements are in compliance with relevant healthcare industry regulations and accounting standards.
- Prepare and present audit documentation to auditors, ensuring any audit issues are promptly addressed and resolved.
- Implement recommendations from auditors to strengthen internal controls and financial reporting processes.
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for executive leadership, including financial statements, variance analysis, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Provide strategic financial insights to senior leadership to support decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare industry regulations, including payer requirements, coding, billing, and financial reporting.
Internal Controls & Financial Integrity:
- Oversee the implementation and monitoring of internal controls to safeguard the organization’s financial assets.
- Identify and address areas for process improvements, ensuring financial operations are efficient, effective, and compliant.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting to regulatory bodies, including Medicare/Medicaid, and ensure all compliance and reporting requirements are met.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (MBA or CPA preferred).
- 8+ years of experience in finance, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the healthcare industry.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and healthcare regulations.
- Proven experience managing month-end close, budgeting, and audit processes.
- Exceptional leadership skills with a proven ability to manage and develop a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of healthcare-specific financial systems and regulations (e.g., Medicare/Medicaid, HIPAA) is a plus.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- CPA, CFA, or similar professional certification is highly desirable.
- Experience working with healthcare financial systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, or other healthcare ERP systems).
- Experience with financial forecasting and scenario planning.
- Ability to adapt to and lead change in a dynamic healthcare environment.
