About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to join our finance team in the utilities, power, or energy sector. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), knowledge of FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) regulations, and hands-on experience with Oracle Financial software. This role is critical for ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, and optimal financial operations in a fast-paced and highly regulated industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting: Prepare and maintain financial statements in accordance with GAAP and FERC regulations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with industry standards.
Oracle Financial Software: Utilize Oracle Financials to manage financial transactions, generate reports, and maintain financial data integrity. Work with various modules to streamline accounting operations and improve financial accuracy.
Month-End Close: Assist with the month-end close process, including preparing journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts, and ensuring accurate reporting of financial transactions.
FERC Compliance: Ensure compliance with FERC accounting standards, including preparing required regulatory filings, managing cost allocation, and monitoring compliance with FERC accounting rules.
General Ledger Management: Perform general ledger account reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and work to resolve any issues that arise in the recording of financial transactions.
Fixed Asset Management: Manage the accounting for fixed assets, including asset capitalization, depreciation, and amortization, in compliance with GAAP and FERC regulations.
Audit Support: Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and detailed financial records, specifically related to GAAP and FERC-compliant transactions.
Cost Allocation and Classifications: Ensure proper allocation of costs between capital and operational expenses, in line with FERC regulations and internal accounting policies.
Regulatory Filings: Assist in the preparation and filing of regulatory reports required by FERC, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
Financial Analysis: Perform variance analysis and other financial analyses to support decision-making processes and improve operational efficiencies.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments, including operations and project management, to ensure accurate financial reporting, adherence to policies, and proper documentation of financial transactions.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Experience: 3-5 years of accounting experience, ideally within the utilities, energy, or power industry.
Oracle Software: Proven experience using Oracle Financials or similar financial software, including the ability to input data, generate reports, and manage financial transactions effectively.
GAAP & FERC Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of GAAP and FERC regulations, with the ability to apply them to day-to-day financial operations.
Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to review and interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
Attention to Detail: High attention to detail, ensuring that financial records, reports, and filings are accurate and compliant with relevant standards.
Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders and collaborate across teams.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel: Advanced skills in Excel for financial analysis, reporting, and reconciliation tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a utilities, energy, or power company, with a focus on GAAP and FERC-compliant accounting practices.
CPA or progress toward CPA certification is a plus.
Familiarity with industry-specific regulations and reporting standards.
