Position Summary:
We are seeking a mission-driven Controller to lead our accounting operations and ensure financial integrity across our organization. The ideal candidate brings strong nonprofit accounting experience, deep familiarity with QuickBooks, and a passion for supporting impactful work through sound financial stewardship.
The Controller will play a key role in overseeing daily accounting functions, financial reporting, grants management, audit preparation, and compliance with nonprofit financial regulations.
Key Responsibilities:

Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and monthly close

Maintain accurate and timely financial reporting using QuickBooks

Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for management, board, and funders

Manage budgeting and forecasting processes in coordination with department heads

Monitor and report on restricted/unrestricted funds and grants, ensuring compliance with donor and grantor requirements

Lead annual audit process and ensure timely completion of audit and 990 filings

Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls

Supervise and mentor accounting or finance staff, as applicable

Support strategic financial planning, cash flow management, and investment tracking
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA a plus)

5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a nonprofit environment

Proficiency in QuickBooks (Online or Desktop) is preferred

Strong understanding of nonprofit fund accounting and compliance standards (GAAP, FASB, 2 CFR Part 200)

Experience with grant reporting, donor restrictions, and fund management

Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Clear, concise communication style and ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders

High level of integrity and commitment to ethical financial practices
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience managing audits and working with external auditors

Knowledge of nonprofit financial software integrations (e.g., donor databases, payroll systems)

Supervisory or leadership experience in a finance team
