Senior Portfolio Accountant

Overview
Our client is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Portfolio Accountant to join their REIT Portfolio Accounting team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the financial reporting and general ledger functions for a portfolio of real estate assets. You will collaborate closely with internal departments and external auditors to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting. This is a high-impact role with visibility across the organization and opportunities to lead process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, analyze, and deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual GAAP-based financial reports and supporting workpapers.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts; prepare and review journal entries.
  • Support the preparation of SEC filings and related public disclosures for a publicly traded REIT.
  • Coordinate with external auditors during quarterly and annual procedures.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with debt covenants and other financial reporting requirements.
  • Maintain and update cash forecasts; monitor liquidity and funding needs.
  • Calculate and facilitate the payment of business management fees to the company.
  • Collaborate with Portfolio Management, Asset Management, Property Accounting, and Corporate Accounting to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Review and code corporate payables for assigned portfolios.
  • Crosstrain on other portfolios and provide support across the department as needed.
  • Lead or participate in special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned by senior management.
  • Continuously identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

 
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • CPA or progress toward CPA strongly preferred.
  • 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in real estate, REITs, or public accounting.
  • Proficiency with property management/accounting software; Yardi experience preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with SEC reporting tools (e.g., Workiva) is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative, and results-driven environment.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and timeliness.
