Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Controllerto lead financial operations across a multi-entity construction organization. This is a strategic leadership role ideal for a hands-on finance professional with deep construction accounting expertise, a strong track record in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and proficiency in QuickBooks and Sage ERP systems.
This position plays a critical role in financial reporting, integration of acquired companies, ERP optimization, and improving financial processes to support continued growth and scalability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting & Compliance:
Prepare and review accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP; oversee month-end and year-end close processes for multiple construction entities. - M&A Integration:
Lead financial due diligence, integration of acquired entities, and post-close consolidation including ERP migrations, balance sheet alignment, and internal controls setup. - Construction Accounting:
Oversee job costing, WIP schedules, percent-of-completion (PoC) accounting, and other construction-specific reporting; ensure accuracy of project-based financials. - ERP & Systems Management:
Leverage QuickBooks and Sage to manage financial data across the organization; drive system improvements and data consistency across platforms. - Budgeting & Forecasting:
Lead the annual budgeting process, cash flow forecasting, and provide real-time insights to operational and executive teams. - Financial Analysis & KPI Reporting:
Deliver in-depth analysis of financial performance, trends, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to support decision-making. - Process Improvement:
Identify and implement process efficiencies across accounting, reporting, and operational finance functions. - Audit & Tax Support:
Coordinate with external auditors and tax professionals to ensure compliance, prepare audit schedules, and manage year-end tax filings. - Team Leadership:
Mentor and support accounting staff, bookkeepers, and regional finance teams; ensure consistency in financial practices and procedures across business units.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
- Minimum 5–7 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 3 years in the construction industry.
- Proven experience with M&A transactions, including diligence, integration, and consolidation.
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks and Sage; experience managing transitions between accounting platforms is a plus.
- Deep understanding of construction accounting practices, including job costing and WIP reporting.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management experience.
- High attention to detail, analytical mindset, and strong communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
