A Maintenance Technician is responsible for the upkeep and repair of equipment, fixtures, and building systems in various settings. Their duties include routine and emergency repairs, preventative maintenance, and ensuring facilities are in good working order. They diagnose issues, perform necessary repairs, and maintain records of their work. 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshooting and Repair:
    Diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues, and performing necessary repairs using hand and power tools. 

  • Preventative Maintenance:
    Conducting regular inspections and maintenance tasks to prevent equipment failures and ensure optimal performance. 

  • Facility Upkeep:
    Maintaining building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.), performing minor repairs, and ensuring overall facility cleanliness and safety. 

  • Record Keeping:
    Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, parts inventory, and equipment logs. 

  • Collaboration:
    Working with other team members, contractors, and facility personnel to coordinate maintenance activities and ensure smooth operations. 

  • Emergency Response:
    Responding to emergency maintenance requests and quickly resolving issues to minimize downtime and disruptions. 

Required Skills:

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve complex issues efficiently and effectively.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensuring all maintenance tasks are completed accurately and thoroughly.
  • Communication Skills: Effectively communicating with team members, facility personnel, and external contractors.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, climbing, and working in various environments.
  • Basic Computer Skills: Using maintenance management software and documenting work orders. 

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED: Basic entry-level requirement. 
  • Technical Certifications: HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or other relevant certifications can be beneficial. 
  • Experience: Prior experience in maintenance or a related field is often preferred. 

Work Environment:

  • Maintenance technicians work in a variety of settings, including commercial buildings, residential properties, and industrial facilities.
  • The work environment can vary from climate-controlled indoor spaces to outdoor environments, depending on the specific tasks and locations.
