Job Title: Field Construction Engineer

Position Overview:

The Field Construction Engineer supports construction site activities with a focus on GPS surveying, equipment operation, layout, and coordination of CAD data. This position ensures projects are executed efficiently, safely, and in alignment with engineering standards and project plans.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform GPS survey and field layout for civil construction projects.

  • Review project plans and perform field layout calculations and verifications.

  • Operate heavy equipment, trucks, and perform manual labor as required.

  • Convert engineering drawings (CAD/PDF) into GPS-compatible files for machine guidance and layout.

  • Maintain and manage current CAD files and revisions for active projects.

  • Collaborate with design consultants to ensure survey control and layout accuracy.

  • Support project managers with quantity take-offs and earthwork measurements.

  • Comply with all applicable safety standards and internal procedures.


Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in CAD, land surveying, or construction field support.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD; Civil 3D preferred.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to travel to field sites and perform fieldwork.

  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.

  • 3+ years’ experience using AutoCAD in civil construction projects.

  • Familiarity with construction software such as Bluebeam, Bid2Win, or Agtek Earthworks.

  • OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR, and excavation/trenching safety certifications.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment:

  • Frequently exposed to outdoor construction conditions, varying weather, and loud noise levels.

  • May work in confined spaces or uneven terrain.

  • Occasional exposure to dust, machinery, and heavy equipment.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, and perform repetitive motions.

  • Ability to drive and travel to/from project sites.

  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods when not in the field.
