Phlebotomist

Pay: $18-22/hour depending on experience

Schedule:
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM
Tuesday 10:00AM-7:00PM
Every other Saturday 8:00AM-1:00PM

Requirements: 

  • 1+ year of phlebotomy experience
  • Phlebotomy Certification preferred
  • BLS Certification required
  • EMR experience (practice uses Epic – training provided)
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Responsibilities:

  • Greets, communicates with, and assists patients in a professional and courteous manner
  • Collects blood specimens from patients per laboratory order/requisition by performing venipunctures and/or finger sticks, processing/preparing medical laboratory tests and documenting results
  • Performs routine laboratory procedures accurately and safely
  • Performs the “Double Identifier” process on all patients
  • Selects appropriate billing source when completing laboratory requisitions for all patients
  • Monitors and records refrigerator/freezer thermometer readings on Quality Control log daily
  • Participates in performance improvement activities and performs duties in accordance with applicable standards
  • Ensures an appropriate environment for the administration of healthcare by keeping drawing chair, lab counters, workspace, and all equipment areas in a clean, safe, and orderly fashion
  • Prepares specimens and requisitions for outside lab vendors in accordance with company and vendor guidelines, policies, and procedures
  • Conducts monthly inventory (for medical and laboratory) to order/maintain optimum stock levels
  • Stocks examination rooms, laboratory, and other special treatment rooms with necessary supplies
  • Verifies specimen identification and appropriateness of sample type/volume for the indicated testing (including proper color/tube selection) prior to vendor pick up
  • Follows universal precautions at all times
  • Recognizes and resolves questionable laboratory orders and charges
  • Demonstrates proficiency performing CLIA waived testing
  • Maintains laboratory equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s directions and company’s quality and infection control policies and protocols
  • Performs and documents scheduled Quality Control procedures as required by the manufacturers, troubleshoots Quality Control problems, and reports/performs corrective action as necessary
  • Serves as backup for clinical support team as needed by controlling patient flow, performing EKG tests, obtaining blood pressures, documenting vital signs in the EHR, assisting with phone inquiries, and administering injections
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
