Hiring for a Registered Nurse for a 5 month role in Washington, DC (free parking!)

Hours: Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm 
Pay rate: $41/hr

Notes:
Patient population: adults, children – also provide OBGYN services for patients 
Must be empathetic – serve low income/underserved individuals (must be familiar/interested in working with this patient population)  

Requirements: 

  • Certified as a registered nurse and graduate of an accredited college required.
  • Active DC RN License 
  • BLS certification 
  • At least 1 year of experience in a medical office practice or hospital preferred
  • Ability and flexibility to travel and rotate to multiple clinical sites
  • Commitment to work with underserved populations and ability to work in non-profit environments.
  • Required to maintain current certification as required by law, including, but not limited healthcare provider BLS or NRP depending upon clinic location.
  • Ability to speak second language preferred.
  • Knowledge of primary care office.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft.
  • Knowledge with previous EMR programs

Nursing Responsibilities: 

  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment including, but not limited to, taking the patient’s history, obtaining accurate vital signs, and verifying the chief complaint as needed.
  • Instructs patients in basic testing requirements (i.e. Pulmonary Function Tests, clean catch urines, and finger sticks) as needed.
  • Supplies the provider with necessary forms, information, and educational tools to accomplish visit when needed.
  • Prepares exam and treatment room with necessary instruments according to policy and/or procedure manual as instructed.
  • Performs all in-house labs and procedures as indicated by the clinical protocol.
  • Cleans up exam and treatment rooms after patient care.
  • Sets up for sterile procedures when needed.
  • Maintains and restocks exam rooms when needed.
  • Observes, records, and reports patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments ordered by the provider in the Electronic Medical Record upon administration.
  • Performs vaccine and medication administration on patients of all ages when ordered by the provider as needed.
  • Assists with clinical procedures done by the providers in the office as needed.
  • Ensures patient phone calls are reviewed and addressed daily  forwarding to the appropriate team member when necessary.
  • Answers triage phone calls by assessing the patient’s medical condition and formulating plan based on the level of care required as needed.
  • Ensures lab results are reported to the patient daily after being reviewed and requested by the provider
  • Assists with Chronic Care Management, including but not limited to, conducting Pre-visit Chart Reviews as necessary.
  • Performs patient education and participates in care planning process for chronic conditions both newly and previously diagnosed.
  • Performs other duties as requested by supervisor.*

Electronic Health Record Responsibilities: 

  • Completes and locks all nursing progress notes within 3 business days after patient visit.
  • Documents all patient encounters, including face to face, telephone, and electronic communications, in the medical record in a timely fashion.
  • Documents all materials given to the patient in the electronic record.
  • Responds to all telephone encounters with a sense of urgency and in a timely fashion.
  • Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records and keeping patient information confidential.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards, procedures, and legal guidelines.
