Materials Manager Opening
Location: Kensington , CT
Compensation: $135,000 base + 10% bonus
Reports To: Director of Supply Chain
Direct Reports: 5 (Logistics, Inventory & Purchasing)
Position Overview
We are conducting a new search for an experienced Materials Manager to lead logistics, inventory, and purchasing operations within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is critical to ensuring material readiness, inventory accuracy, supplier performance, and on-time delivery while driving cost reduction and operational efficiency.
The Materials Manager will partner closely with cross-functional leaders and senior management to support business growth, operational planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and support Logistics, Inventory, and Purchasing teams to meet plant and business needs

Ensure material availability, inventory accuracy, shipment timeliness, and cost control

Implement and maintain standard work across all material functions

Oversee inventory cycle counts, adjustments, and material issue compliance

Drive purchasing performance metrics including:
-
PPV
-
On-time PO issuance
-
Supplier communication
-
Cost reduction initiatives
-
Long-Term Agreements (LTAs)
-
Lead time and terms negotiation
-
-
Participate in daily Tier walks and represent materials functions
-
Provide data-driven recommendations to senior leadership
-
Support Sales, Growth, and Operations Planning (GDP)

Ensure material readiness and risk mitigation for plant operations
-
Manage accuracy of on-hand inventory and purchase orders
-
Ensure timely PO releases within delegation of authority

Approve purchasing team expense reports and corporate card coding
-
Support government audits, compliance requirements, and supplier needs

Assist with year-end inventory processes

Monitor and improve KPIs including:

On-Time Delivery (OTD)
-
PPV
-
Inventory adjustments
-
Freight cost reduction
-

Ensure team members are properly trained and cross-trained
Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly manage employees within Logistics, Inventory, and Purchasing

Interview, hire, train, coach, and develop team members

Assign work, set expectations, and evaluate performance

Address employee relations issues and resolve concerns in accordance with company policies and applicable laws
Qualifications
Education & Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or related field OR
-
5–7 years of related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Working knowledge of aerospace specifications and standards

2–4 years of experience in production control and/or inventory management
-
2–4 years of experience with Epicor or similar MRP/ERP systems
Skills & Competencies

Intermediate to advanced Epicor (or similar MRP) experience

Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis)

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills

Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities

High level of accountability, independence, and follow-through

Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
