Base Compensation: $140,700

Overview
A large, mission-driven organization in Cambridge, MA is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support the planning, design, operation, and long-term reliability of a complex utility and energy infrastructure. This role is a priority hire and has been open since September, offering an opportunity to step into a high-impact position with long-term stability.
This position focuses on underground electrical distribution, medium-voltage substations, and advanced energy systems within a dense, infrastructure-rich environment.
Key Responsibilities

Provide senior-level electrical engineering support for utility infrastructure, including underground distribution and medium-voltage substations

Lead planning, design, upgrades, and capital improvement projects related to electrical and energy systems

Support system operations, maintenance strategies, and reliability initiatives

Serve as a technical liaison with internal stakeholders, contractors, consultants, and local utility providers

Evaluate and support advanced energy initiatives including distributed generation, CHP, microgrids, renewables, and battery energy storage

Perform power system studies such as load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and protective device coordination

Oversee construction activities to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective execution

Support emergency response and critical infrastructure operations as required
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering

Professional Engineer (PE) license – Massachusetts

Minimum of 10 years of professional electrical engineering experience

Experience in institutional, industrial, or utility environments

Strong background in underground electric distribution and medium-voltage substations
Preferred Experience

Small-scale power generation, CHP, microgrids, and distributed energy resources

Renewable energy systems, battery storage, and grid interconnection

Power system modeling and analysis tools

Electrical safety standards (OSHA, NFPA 70E)

SCADA systems, AutoCAD, and asset/work management platforms (e.g., Maximo)

Energy efficiency and conservation initiatives
Work Environment

Must be able to navigate ladders, stairs, confined spaces, and wear PPE

Designated as Critical Operations Personnel, requiring on-site support during emergency situations
