Job Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join our dynamic finance team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) accounting software, and will assist in a wide range of accounting functions including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable/receivable, month-end closing, and financial reporting. Key Responsibilities
- General Ledger Management: Assist with journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable: Support the AP/AR teams by processing invoices, matching purchase orders, verifying payment receipts, and preparing aging reports.
- Month-End & Year-End Close: Help ensure timely and accurate financial reporting by assisting with the preparation of financial statements and closing entries.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare basic financial reports and assist in the analysis of variances, trends, and operational performance.
- Account Reconciliations: Reconcile balance sheet accounts and assist in ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data.
- Assist in Audits: Provide support for internal and external audits by preparing necessary documentation and reports.
- Other Duties: Assist with ad-hoc accounting projects and tasks as needed, and provide support to senior team members.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: 2-3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit or public accounting setting.
- Software Proficiency: Strong experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) is preferred. Proficiency in MS Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP) is highly desirable.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience with grant or fund accounting is strongly prefered
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail with the ability to spot errors and discrepancies in financial data.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze and resolve accounting issues and discrepancies efficiently.
- Organizational Skills: Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with other Great Plains or ERP systems is a plus.
- Knowledge of financial reporting and auditing standards.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
