Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant to join our hospital’s finance team. The ideal candidate will possess strong full-cycle accounting skills, a solid understanding of reconciliations and variance analysis/reporting, and a passion for supporting the financial operations of a healthcare organization. This position plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information used for decision-making and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform full-cycle accounting functions including journal entries, month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Prepare and review account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance with internal controls.
- Conduct variance analysis and financial reporting, identifying trends, anomalies, and areas for improvement.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes by providing data-driven insights.
- Support the preparation of financial statements and related schedules for audits and regulatory reporting.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with departments to ensure timely and accurate financial data collection.
- Maintain compliance with hospital accounting policies, GAAP, and relevant healthcare regulations.
- Participate in system improvements and automation initiatives.
- Assist with Medicare/Medicaid accounting and reimbursements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA license or active CPA candidate highly desirable but not required.
- 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a healthcare or hospital environment (strongly preferred).
- Strong proficiency in general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and variance analysis/reporting.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and internal control principles.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems (e.g., Workday, Lawson, or Oracle) and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
Preferred Experience:
- Healthcare industry accounting experience with exposure to reimbursement processes.
- Familiarity with Medicare/Medicaid reimbursements and healthcare cost reporting
