ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST
Long-Term Contract through 2024
**Possible temp-perm and/or eligible to apply to other positions in 2025

  • Pay: ~$22.00-24.00/hour
  • Hours: 40hrs/week
  • Hybrid: Fully remote except 2-4 times in office in Concord, NH per yr.
  • Length of contract: TBD, but at least through the end of the yr.

Summary:
Reporting to and collaborating with the Manager, Accounting and Financial Reporting, entry-level position performing general accounting duties and journal documentation within the Financial Operations team

  • Performs basic accounting functions such as ledger/fund analysis, cost analysis, fund reconciliation, posting, and fiscal control of inventory
  • Monitors revenue and expenses for unit and institutional accounts and ensures expenditure control and compliance with System and other funding and reporting requirements and policies, as well as standard accounting procedure
 
  • Constructs routine spreadsheet applications, prepares financial data for input into finance systems, performs calculations (including interest and depreciation), and prepares financial reports from standard operating statistics and/or financial data
  • Coordinates the timely and accurate preparation of regularly scheduled and special billings, cost reports, analyses, students, inventories, and preliminary financial statements for local, state, federal, and private funding source
  • Analyzes, reconciles, balances, and maintains accounting records, including through journal entries and documentation, and prepares, reviews, and processes budget, revenue, and expense corrections, preparing standard bank reconciliations of low complexity as needed
  • Supports the analysis and forecasting of revenue and expenditure trends
  • Investigates and resolves standard problems related to funds, budgets, expenditures, and/or procurement practices
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of internal fiscal systems and procedures, applying basic concepts, methods, and techniques of accounting
  • Assists in audit activities
  • Maintains knowledge of company & finance systems, policies, and procedures related to accounting operations and adheres to established standards and protocols
  • Provides accounting support customer service to USNH departments across campuses.
  • Performs related duties, as assigned

Qualifications:
 

  • 2 or more years professional experience related to accounting or finance; completed degrees and/or relevant certificates may be substituted for experience if applicable
  • Working knowledge of standard accounting principles
  • Ability to interact with standard technology platforms (e.g., word processing, data entry, email, internet browsing, etc.)
  • Capacity to quickly learn navigation of an automated accounting and financial system
  • Excellent mathematical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interpret and work with typical financial data, perform calculations, and draw conclusions where necessary
  • Ability to understand and interpret typical financial statements, invoices, and other financial documentation
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, accurately, and professionally, both verbally and in writing
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to work in a collaborative environment with System and institutional leaders, as well as colleagues in other financial affairs departments
  • Openness to 360-degree feedback and desire to learn and grow continuously
