Primary Responsibilities
1. Advanced On-Site Abatement Tasks
- Lead the setup and teardown of regulated containment areas, including critical barriers, decontamination units, and negative air systems.
- Safely remove and properly dispose of asbestos-containing materials such as insulation, flooring, and pipe wrap using approved methods.
- Perform airless spraying, encapsulation, and wet removal techniques as appropriate for the project scope.
- Operate and maintain HEPA vacuums, air scrubbers, negative air machines, and other specialized equipment.
- Assess job site conditions to determine the most effective containment and abatement strategies.
- Ensure work is completed per project specifications, regulatory requirements, and company standards.
2. Safety and Regulatory Compliance
- Enforce strict adherence to OSHA, EPA, and state-specific asbestos abatement regulations.
- Monitor the proper use of PPE, including full-face respirators, Tyvek suits, and gloves.
- Conduct daily site inspections and participate in safety briefings and hazard assessments.
- Manage waste handling and decontamination procedures to prevent contamination outside the regulated area.
3. Equipment Operation and Maintenance
- Set up and monitor negative air pressure systems and HEPA-filtered equipment.
- Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs on abatement equipment.
- Maintain detailed logs for equipment usage, air monitoring results, and filter changes.
- Report any malfunctioning equipment or supply shortages to the supervisor.
4. Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate daily logs, including worker sign-in/out sheets, air monitoring data, and equipment checklists.
- Assist in completing project paperwork, including waste manifests, work site plans, and clearance reports.
- Upload job site photos, progress updates, and documentation into project tracking systems (e.g., DASH or company-specific platforms).
- Ensure all reports are submitted accurately and in a timely manner to the Project Manager or Operations Manager.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2–3 years of asbestos abatement experience, with proven ability to manage containment and removal tasks.
- Must possess a current Asbestos Worker or Supervisor Certification (state-specific) and meet all training requirements under AHERA, OSHA 1926.1101, and EPA standards.
- Strong knowledge of containment setup, removal procedures, and hazardous material handling.
- Familiarity with air monitoring procedures and clearance testing protocols.
- Comfortable using project management software (e.g., DASH) for documentation and tracking.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work in confined spaces or elevated areas, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
- Willingness to work nights, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed.
