Position Overview:
The Controller will be responsible for managing and overseeing all accounting functions within the organization. This role will require a deep understanding of retail accounting, with a particular focus on high-volume transactions, inventory management, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. The Controller will work closely with senior management to ensure that financial reporting is accurate, timely, and reflective of the company’s retail operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Analysis:
Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Analyze financial data and provide actionable insights to senior leadership.
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for retail performance, margins, and inventory turnover.

High-Volume Transaction Management:

Manage high-volume daily transactions, including sales, purchases, and cash handling.

Ensure that all transactions are accurately recorded in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Reconcile bank accounts, credit card transactions, and merchant accounts on a regular basis.

Inventory & Cost of Goods Sold (COGS):

Collaborate with the inventory team to ensure accurate recording of inventory and cost of goods sold.

Oversee periodic physical inventory counts and reconciliation with financial records.

Cash Flow Management:

Monitor and manage cash flow, ensuring adequate liquidity for day-to-day operations.

Prepare cash flow forecasts and manage vendor payments to optimize cash availability.

Budgeting & Forecasting:

Assist in the preparation and management of annual budgets.

Provide regular budget-to-actual analysis, ensuring alignment with financial targets.

Compliance & Internal Controls:

Maintain and enforce strong internal controls to safeguard company assets.

Ensure compliance with all accounting policies, procedures, and regulations.

Assist with the preparation and coordination of audits.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
5+ years of accounting experience with a strong focus on retail and high-volume transaction environments.
Extensive experience with QuickBooks Online (QBO) is required.
Strong knowledge of retail accounting practices, including inventory management and COGS calculations.
Proficient in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
Experience with cash flow management and reconciliation of bank and credit card accounts.
Solid understanding of internal controls and regulatory compliance.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including operations and senior management.

Preferred Qualifications:

CPA or equivalent certification (or working toward certification).
Experience with retail POS systems or ERP software.
Familiarity with tax filings and preparation for multi-state operations.
