Key Requirements

  • 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a financial institution
  • Background in a financial institution is required
  • Strong technical accounting expertise

  • Proven leadership experience, including mentoring, training, and team oversight

  • Open to professionals stepping up into this level role if the skill set aligns

  • Must be excited by growth and building something long-term


Position Summary

The Controller or AVP of Accounting will work closely with the CFO and oversee all accounting operations. While the CFO focuses on executive-level strategy, this person will own day-to-day financial management, internal controls, and operational accounting. This includes building out financial systems and processes, providing leadership to a capable team, regulatory reporting, and audit readiness.

Additional duties will include:

  • Oversee all accounting operations including GL, AP/AR, budgeting, and financial reporting

  • Maintain GAAP compliance and ensure timely and accurate financials

  • Develop and improve internal controls, systems, and processes

  • Prepare and present reports

  • Manage audits, regulatory exams, and compliance with tax filings and call reports

  • Oversee liquidity management, profitability modeling, etc.

  • Partner with CFO on strategic initiatives and financial planning as well as support investment analysis and enterprise risk management
