CONTROLLER (ACCOUNTING)

Compensation range: 140,000-150,000

Reports to: President
General Scope:
The primary responsibility of this role is to oversee all financial aspects of the company and to be accountable for the accurate and timely processing of financial reports. Understanding the business plan and overall goals for the business is essential to success in this position.  The successful candidate will be an integral member of the management team, will help guide and optimize the business.

Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Management  
    • Maintain a documented system of Accounting including costing and G/L management.
    • Oversee accounting staff and manage day-to-day operations.
    •  Act as the on site contact for Human Resources.
  • Transactions  
    • Ensure that all accounts payable and receivable transactions are processed accurately and timely
    • Ensure payroll is processed accurately
    • Maintain a system of controls for accounting transactions
    • Maintain the chart of accounts and reconcile as necessary
    • Process daily deposits and report cash to the CFO
    • Bank reconciliation
    • Track job costs
    • Reconcile inventories
    • Monthly journal entries required to complete close
    • Sales tax returns
    • Balance shipments to revenue and make sure revenue is claimed at the correct time
    • Run credit checks on potential customers
    • Process credit card payments
  • Reporting 
    • Issue timely and complete financial statements
    • Manage and help to prepare the annual budget
    • Calculate variances to the budget and report as necessary
    • Provide financial analysis as requested by the President, CEO or CFO
  • Compliance 
    •  Coordinate with the external auditors for the annual audit
    • Comply with local, state and federal reporting requirements
  • Understand the financial implications to the business based on status of payments/shipments
  • Assist in making financial decisions for the business

Skills and Competencies

  • Analytical skills: Must be able to analyze the financial statements for accuracy and reconcile to the budget. This is necessary in being able to make decisions that impact the business.
  • Deadline Focused: The ability and drive for achieving our deadlines set by our corporate officers This is about taking pride in your work and making sure your monthly reports are delivered on time.
  • A highly-motivated self-starter that processes great problem solving skills and a “do whatever it takes attitude”. A willingness to do anything it takes to get the job done.
  • Must maintain confidential information properly
  • Must be familiar with business and ERP and accounting software system.  Familiarity with Aptean Made2Manage is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience with HR policy and accounting procedure enforcement
  • Ability to prioritize and manage several tasks simultaneously
  • The ability to look at the big picture and make decisions based on the overall goals of the business

Minimum Requirements

  • B.S. in Accounting
  • 3-5 years’ experience
  • Experience with major ERP system
  • Considerable MS Office experience
  • Ability to multi-task and work with little supervision. 
  • Detail oriented and a team player.
