Job Title: Controller
Location: Western Mass
Position Summary:
Seeking a Finance Director to oversee all accounting and financial operations.  This role is pivotal in supporting sound financial planning, budgeting, and financial reporting. The Controller will play a key role in the management of resources, financial analysis, and reporting to internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies and donors. The ideal candidate will have a deep commitment to social justice and be passionate about supporting immigrant and refugee communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Oversight and Planning:
  • accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and compliance.
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports  ensuring clear and accurate financial data is available for decision-making.
  •  preparation of the annual budget, ensuring alignment with organizational values, strategic goals, and financial sustainability.
  • Provide strategic financial analysis to inform organizational planning
  • Accounting and Compliance:
  • Oversee all accounting functions, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), nonprofit accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage cash flow, investments, and reserves, ensuring financial sustainability and adherence to donor and funder restrictions.
  • Support the completion of annual audits and tax filings, and ensure compliance with all state, federal, and local regulations in partnership with the audit firm.
  • Ensure proper internal controls are in place to safeguard the organization’s financial resources.

 

  • Grant and Fund Management:
  • Supervise the financial management of grants, contracts, and other funding sources, ensuring proper allocation and reporting in line with donor or funder guidelines.
  • track program expenses, ensuring that spending is aligned with grants and contractual obligations.
  • Leadership and Collaboration:
  • Supervise and support the finance team, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment with division of tasks across the team.
  • Work closely with the CEO, COO, and Board of Directors to ensure the financial stability and sustainability of the organization.
  • Serve as a liaison to external finance stakeholders.
  • Strategic Financial Guidance:
  • Advise on financial strategies for growth and sustainability, identifying opportunities for cost savings, increased revenue, and financial optimization.
  • Attend monthly Finance Committee meetings and occasional Board meeting. Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (CPA or MA preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of senior financial management experience, ideally within a nonprofit organization or in a similar human services setting.
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting, federal and state regulations, and financial reporting standards.
  • Experience managing grants and government contracts, with a demonstrated ability to meet complex reporting requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency with SAGE Intacct or other similar accounting software.
  • Knowledge of government funding and reporting requirements for human services organizations.
  • Experience of Medicaid and behavioral health billing highly desirable
