About the Role
This is a full-time hybrid leadership role for a Corporate Controller. This critical position will be responsible for overseeing the general ledger close, managing the consolidation of multiple international subsidiaries, supervising and mentoring the accounting staff, and maintaining robust internal controls across the finance organization. The Corporate Controller will ensure all monthly general ledger procedures are executed properly, including the review of journal entries, preparation of supporting schedules, analyses, and financial documentation.
Responsibilities
- Leadership and Team Development: Lead, inspire, and develop a team of accounting professionals, providing mentorship, coaching, and growth opportunities while maintaining accountability.
- Financial Close Management: Ensure the accounting team meets deadlines for a timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close.
- International Operations: Provide oversight and review of accounting operations for international entities, including intercompany transactions and global consolidations.
- Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare monthly and quarterly internal and external reporting requirements and analyses, including assistance with budget-to-actual reviews.
- Technical Accounting & Compliance:
- Partner with the Technical Accounting/Financial Reporting group.
- Assist with technical accounting research and special projects.
- Assist with updates to formal internal control documentation to maintain compliance with appropriate requirements (e.g., SOX).
- Assist with preparation for annual audits and quarterly reviews, interacting with external and internal auditors and tax consultants.
- Process Improvement: Actively participate in system and process improvements, monitoring assigned areas to drive greater efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ad-Hoc: Create and update necessary policies and process documents, along with performing ad hoc analysis and other special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience: Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field with a minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience.
- Industry Background: Extensive experience in a publicly traded commercial-stage company within a regulated industry (e.g., Life Sciences, Biotechnology, or Pharmaceutical).
- Management: Strong, demonstrated experience managing and leading teams.
- Certification: CPA is strongly preferred, with a preference for candidates who have experience within a National or Big 4 CPA firm.
- Technical Expertise:
- Broad knowledge of US GAAP and SOX Internal controls.
- Strong systems skills are required, including experience with major modern ERP systems (e.g., Intacct, SAP, Oracle) and various financial technology tools for close management, budgeting/forecasting, and expense reporting.
- Experience with complex areas like Gross to Net/Net Revenue Accounting is highly desirable.
