Director of Finance

JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Financial Planning and Analysis is responsible for leading the development of the organization’s annual operating and capital budgets, managing the budget and forecast processes, and supporting long-term planning by transforming financial data into actionable insights.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage the annual budget and forecasting processes in collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer and senior leadership, including the formulation of policies and guidelines for budgetary decisions.
  • Provide statistical, technical, and research support and analysis to colleagues for budgeting, forecasting, modeling, and projecting; understanding variances; and identifying cost containment and revenue enhancement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to facilitate budgetary planning related to staffing and compensation.
  • Work proactively with colleagues to develop clear financial objectives, collect and refine data, conduct descriptive and inferential analyses, present findings, and create data solutions to provide stakeholders with the necessary information.
  • Prepare and present analytic findings for financial and resource allocation planning to the Board of Trustees, Finance Committee, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in initiatives and projects related to data governance, ad-hoc reporting, external reporting requirements, and documentation, including audit requirements for budget-to-actual analysis and functional expense reporting.
  • Analyze information to create accurate and timely reports, providing insights to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Deliver high-quality service that fosters strong working relationships and effective communication; take ownership of timeliness, accuracy, and relationship-building.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Seven or more years of professional experience in nonprofit. 
  • Proven ability to lead budget processes, including creation, management, and forecasting.
  • Extensive experience in financial analysis and planning, both short- and long-term.
  • Strong data skills, including querying and extracting information from various systems and synthesizing and analyzing data for meaningful action.
  • Proficiency in Excel and strong analytical skills; experience with ERP platforms.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and organizational skills.
