Director of Manufacturing
Location: Greater Hartford, CT
Compensation: $150,000 – $170,000 annually
Join a dynamic, growth-focused manufacturing company as our Director of Manufacturing, a key member of our Senior Leadership Team. This strategic role is responsible for leading day-to-day operations with direct oversight of Manufacturing (Production), Facilities, and Lean Enterprise initiatives. We’re seeking a hands-on, results-driven leader to drive operational excellence, champion lean principles, and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality products to our customers.
Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Development:
Manage, coach, and align a team of department managers and supervisors. Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Act as a mentor and subject matter expert, resolving conflicts and setting clear priorities. -
Operations & Performance Metrics:
Establish and report on critical operational metrics (quality, efficiency, job costing, delivery performance, and budget adherence) to drive data-informed decision-making across the organization. -
Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement:
Champion lean manufacturing practices, 5S, visual management, and workforce training. Identify and implement process improvements to optimize workflow and reduce waste. -
Technology & Innovation:
Evaluate and implement advanced manufacturing technologies (e.g., precision machining, grinding, forming) to stay on the leading edge of operational capability and industry standards. -
Facilities & Equipment Management:
Oversee maintenance of the facility and equipment, ensuring a safe, efficient, and modern manufacturing environment in alignment with strategic growth plans. -
ERP & Cost Control:
Ensure accurate use of ERP systems (e.g., Epicor Kinetics) for time tracking, job costing, and inventory management. Collaborate with Finance to manage budgets and minimize job variances. -
Talent Management:
Partner with HR to recruit, train, and retain a high-performing workforce. Maintain skills matrices, support succession planning, and foster a safe, compliant, and engaged work environment. -
Safety & Compliance:
Lead the organization’s safety culture and compliance efforts. Stay current with OSHA standards and ensure the workplace meets or exceeds all health and safety regulations.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Industrial Management, Business, or equivalent; or 10+ years of experience in advanced manufacturing leadership.

Deep knowledge of precision machining and forming processes including Swiss screw machining, milling, grinding, thread rolling, and secondary operations.

Familiarity with special manufacturing processes such as heat treating, coatings, and testing.

Proven expertise in Lean Enterprise methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, Black Belt certification preferred).

Experience working within ISO9000/AS9100 environments and with regulatory bodies such as DLA and OSHA.

Aerospace manufacturing experience strongly preferred.

Demonstrated success managing budgets and implementing new manufacturing technologies.

ERP system proficiency (Epicor preferred) and strong Microsoft Office skills.
Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.

Must be able to walk throughout the facility regularly.

Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
