Job Summary
The Director of Operations oversees all operational activities, driving strategy for increased productivity, efficiency, and growth while ensuring strict adherence to industry standards and regulations. This senior management role involves collaborating with department heads and executives to implement long-term operational plans and meet company objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning & Execution: Develop and implement strategic operational plans to achieve company goals and objectives, working closely with senior management to maximize productivity and performance.
- Operational Management: Plan, monitor, and analyze day-to-day operations, including production, supply chain management, inventory, and logistics, to ensure smooth workflows and timely completion of tasks.
- Quality & Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards, regulations, and customer specifications (e.g., NADCAP, AS9100, FAA), and drive the root cause/corrective action processes for critical quality issues.
- Process Improvement: Lead continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies like Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service quality.
- Financial Oversight: Participate in the development and implementation of annual budgets, monitor spending, analyze P&L statements, and make adjustments to operational budgets to promote profitability.
- Team Leadership & Management: Recruit, select, orient, and train employees, providing strong leadership, guidance, and performance evaluations to foster a productive and safe work environment.
- Risk Management & Safety: Promote the highest Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards with the aim of zero accidents or incidents, ensuring compliance with national laws and regulations.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or business administration is required; a Master’s degree is a plus.
- Experience: Typically requires 10+ years of operations and engineering experience in a relevant manufacturing or aviation environment, with at least 5 years in a management or supervisory role.
- Skills:
- Expert knowledge of relevant Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and industry standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize data and make strategic recommendations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in managing multiple priorities and executing simultaneous assignments under pressure.
Reporting Structure
The Director of Operations typically reports to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) or the President/General Manager.
