Schedule:
Week 1:
Sunday: Off
Monday: 8:30AM-9:00PM
Tuesday: 8:30AM-9:00PM
Wednesday: Off
Thursday: 8:30AM-9:00PM
Friday: Off
Saturday: Every other Saturday, with another day off during the week

Week 2:
Sunday: Off
Monday: 6:30AM-5:00PM
Tuesday: 6:30AM-5:00PM
Wednesday: Off
Thursday: 6:30AM-5:00PM
Friday: 8:30AM-7:00PM
Saturday: Every other Saturday, with another day off during the week

Requirements: 

  • GI Technician Certification preferred
  • BLS Certification
  • 1 year of medical assistant experience or endoscopy/OR experience

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with endoscopic procedures and patient care under the direction of RN
  • Preparation of endoscopic equipment, assisting doctors and nurses during procedures, decontamination and care of endoscopic equipment and supplies
  • Monitoring supplies for reordering, tracking equipment sent out for repair, maintaining decontamination room logbooks
  • Coordinates the efforts of the technicians in all Ors and the Soiled Workroom and reports problems or potential problems to the Nurse Manager
  • Assures correct documentation is recorded
  • Maintains patient confidentiality
  • Ensures procedure room is set up for the day
  • Set up the OR endoscopy area and decontamination room for the day
  • Decontaminates endoscopy room and decontamination room surfaces between each patient and at the end of the day
  • Inspects scopes and accessories daily for proper mechanical functioning before each procedure
  • Leak test scopes after each procedure, before manual cleaning
  • Ensures prompt and thorough room turnover, cleaning, and disinfecting of scopes and accessories
  • Assists RN with patient preparation for and during endoscopy procedure
  • Directs patients to changing area before procedure
  • Assists the physician with biopsy specimens
  • Assists with patient recovery
  • Communicates patient status to appropriate health care member
  • Assists to ambulate patients according to the suites policy and procedure in accordance with the physician’s orders
  • Walks patients to changing area and to car when directed by RN
  • Assists patients on and off stretchers
  • Decontaminates stretcher and remakes for next patient
  • Restocks OR, decontamination room, clean and soiled utility rooms, pre-op and post-op areas, patient changing areas, employee locker room and rest room
  • Ensures adequate number of supplies on hand and anticipates future needs and orders appropriately
  • Assists other health care members as needed and when asked
  • Adheres to procedures, instructions, and established routines
  • Reports concerns and errors to Nurse Manager
  • Provide courteous service to patients, families, and staff
  • Adheres to protective required wear when assisting and performing decontamination and any other time when exposure to blood born pathogens or chemicals present a hazard
  • Other duties as assigned
