HR Assistant
Seeking a detail-oriented, HR Assistant to join our Human Resources and Business Offices. This role will manage payroll processing, benefits administration, and support various HR functions, including onboarding, offboarding, and employee records management. The ideal candidate is an experienced professional seeking a long-term role, comfortable with payroll and benefits systems, and capable of delivering exceptional employee support. This is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position reporting to the Director of Human Resources.
Responsibilities:
Payroll and Business Office:

Process bi-weekly staff payroll and semi-monthly faculty payroll with precision and timeliness.

Enter and update employee data in payroll systems (ADP Workforce Now preferred) and across benefits vendors; process terminations, salary, and PTO payouts.

Manage payroll deductions, including taxes, benefits, and retirement contributions, resolving discrepancies promptly.

Collaborate with the Business Office to reconcile benefit invoices.

Provide backup support for mail and package sorting and distribution.
Benefits Administration:

Administer employee benefits programs, including open enrollment, qualifying event changes, and employee education.

Handle employee benefits inquiries with professionalism and efficiency.

Manage workers’ compensation and employee leave claims (e.g., PFML, STD, LTD), from initial filing to return-to-work coordination, communicating effectively with employees and insurers.

Support benefits plan education initiatives in collaboration with the Director of HR.
Human Resources:

Assist in recruiting by drafting job descriptions, managing postings, and communicating with candidates and hiring managers.

Onboard new employees, including background checks and record creation; offboard separating employees.

Maintain accurate and confidential employee files, HR databases, and metrics.

Conduct annual employee records reviews, archive files, and perform repeat background checks every three years.

Support compliance, reporting, and internal audits related to HR, payroll, and benefits.

Produce employment letters, adjustment letters, and contracts for staff, faculty, and administrators.

Assist in developing and executing employee training programs and events.

Support HR projects as assigned by the Director of HR.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources, accounting, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.

Proven experience in payroll processing and benefits administration required; ADP Workforce Now experience a plus.

Experience with leave of absence (LOA) administration (e.g., PFML, STD, LTD) preferred.
