Job Title: Patent Docket Specialist
Location: Washington, DC
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 4 days in office
Compensation: $70,000–$100,000 base + overtime
Overview
A premier intellectual property law firm in Washington, DC is seeking an experienced Patent Docket Specialist to join its growing IP operations team. This role supports a high-volume domestic and international patent practice and requires strong attention to detail, deadline management, and familiarity with USPTO and foreign patent procedures.
Key Responsibilities

Maintain and manage the patent docket for U.S. and international patent matters

Calculate, calendar, and monitor critical patent deadlines (USPTO, PCT, and foreign jurisdictions)

Enter, update, and audit docketing data to ensure accuracy and compliance

Review incoming correspondence from the USPTO and foreign agents and translate actions into docketed deadlines

Generate reports and respond to attorney and client inquiries regarding patent deadlines and status

Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants to ensure timely filings

Assist with process improvements and quality control initiatives related to docketing
Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of patent docketing experience in a law firm or corporate IP environment

Working knowledge of U.S. patent prosecution and international patent procedures

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree required

Experience with CPI docketing software strongly preferred

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously

High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and reliability
