Estate Planning

  • Regularly meet with individuals and families to discuss estate planning needs and options
  • Draft Wills, Revocable and Irrevocable Trusts, Durable General Powers of Attorney, Health Care Proxies, HIPAA Medical Authorizations and Nominations of Guardian
  • Provide guidance on beneficiary designations for retirement benefits and life insurance
  • Assist clients with lifetime funding of trusts and probate avoidance
  • Counsel on asset allocation and gifting strategies to minimize federal and state estate tax
  • Prepare Promissory Notes and Mortgages for intra-family loans
  • Establish Limited Liability Companies to hold rental property

Estate Administration

  • Prepare and file paperwork in Probate Court
  • Assist with collection and distribution of estate and trust assets
  • Oversee trust administration, including funding of marital and family trusts
  • Prepare, file and secure allowance of probate and trust accountings
  • Advise fiduciaries on post-mortem tax planning
  • Prepare and file federal, Massachusetts and other state estate tax returns
  • Serve as fiduciary, including Personal Representative and Trustee

Gift Tax Returns

  • Prepare and file all gift tax returns; manage the ongoing production of completed returns to avoid running up against filing deadlines
  • Maintain an annual spreadsheet of returns and the status of the preparation
  • Prepare letters to existing clients and new clients each January
  • Follow up with post-April extension clients to ensure timely filing in October
  • Maintain the organization of all filed returns
