Job Title: Mechanical Buyer

Reports To: Supply Chain Manager

Overview:
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Mechanical Buyer to join our procurement team within a fast-paced, regulated medical device manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing mechanical components, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring materials meet stringent quality and regulatory standards (FDA, ISO 13485, etc.). This role is key to maintaining production schedules, cost targets, and compliance with industry regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Procure mechanical parts, components, and assemblies to support production and new product development

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to ensure purchased materials meet technical specifications and regulatory requirements

  • Identify, evaluate, and qualify suppliers; negotiate pricing, lead times, and terms

  • Issue purchase orders, monitor order status, and resolve delivery or quality issues

  • Maintain accurate records in ERP/MRP systems, ensuring traceability and compliance with QMS requirements

  • Participate in supplier audits and assist in corrective action processes as needed

  • Monitor market trends, cost drivers, and supplier performance to support continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives

  • Ensure compliance with applicable medical device regulations (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485) in all purchasing activities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

  • 3+ years of purchasing or supply chain experience, preferably in a regulated medical device or high-tech manufacturing environment

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical components and materials (machined parts, plastics, metals, etc.)

  • Familiarity with regulatory and quality requirements in medical device manufacturing (FDA, ISO 13485, GMP)

  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite)

  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and vendor management skills

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • APICS/CPIM or similar supply chain certification

  • Experience supporting NPI (New Product Introduction) purchasing and cross-functional development teams

  • Knowledge of supplier qualification processes in a regulated industry
