Orthopedic Medical Assistant

Location: Ridgewood, New Jersey
Schedule: Full time, 36-40 hours/week

  • shifts vary and can start from 8-10am or noon, and end 5-7pm
  • Wednesdays they are open until 7pm
  • MAs are asked to have flexibility with their schedule

Pay: $24 – $26/hour temp

Qualifications:

  • Certification/registration not a requirement, but preferred
  • BLS/CPR required
  • Prior ortho experience required (6-12 months)
  • 1+ years in healthcare
  • EMR experience preferred
  • Phlebotomy a plus
  • Ultrasound experience a plus
  • High school or equivalent

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Prepare patients for their examination, escort them to the exam room and be present, as necessary, for the examination/treatment to assist the physician in treatment procedures
  • Be the liaison with the orthopedist in informing reception of any appointments that need to be scheduled to facilitate smooth flow of operations
  • Record medical histories and vital signs of patients
  • Sterilize equipment before and after treatment and properly dispose used containers and items to avoid infection
  • Clean and sterilize rooms and prepare them for the treatment of patients
  • Create and fill patients’ chart with relevant and current information about their health condition, and update chart with changes and progress in patients’ health
  • Maintain inventory for medications, and clinical supplies as well as BREG
  • Application of braces/splints
  • Occasional finger puncture for hemoglobin
  • Possible venipuncture for PRP injection
  • Removal of sutures/staples
  • Removal of casts/splints
  • Set up and stocking exam rooms
  • When necessary, process prescriptions to be filled at the patient’s preferred pharmacy.

Administrative tasks:

  • The following are administrative tasks to be completed on the days the CMA is assigned as administrative
  • Chart preparation for following day:
    • Confirm results of patients’ tests, such as imaging results and other lab results as appropriate
    • Confirm that the physician is an existing patient, new patient to physician or new to practice, based on patient history
  • Work on tasks/orders sent by providers such as:
    • Refills
    • Home Care
    • Imaging
  • Answer incoming telephone calls from physicians and patients as well as entertain inquiries, and facilitate correspondence with regards to their treatment in the office
  • Maintain a level of communication with the office PA/Clinical Lead and escalate issues as necessary to them
  • Maintain inventory – including but not limited to BREG
