Pay: $50-60/hour
Schedule: Start as part-time, can work up to full-time based on quality of work
Practice hours are Monday through Friday 8AM – 5PM
Requirements:
Formal training as a Mohs Technician and/or experience in Mohs Surgery
Familiarity with Mohs equipment
Responsibilities:
Under supervision of Mohs Micrographic Surgeons, the histotech will map, cut, and stain the surgical specimens according to the outlined Mohs technique
Perform all functions in the Mohs histology lab including, but not limited to, frozen section embedding, microtomy, staining, and filing
- Keep current with changes in laboratory procedures, and be responsible for maintaining certification according to CLIA Regulations
- Prepare and maintain dilutions and stains
- Map and chromacode tissue specimens according to Mohs technique
- Cut horizontal frozen sections
- Prepare microscopic slides
- Dispose of tissue according to tissue disposal protocol
- Maintain quality control on all slides processed
- Enter Mohs map data accurately in Mohs database each day
- Label, file, and store Mohs histology slides
- Submit slides when requested by supervising physician to pathologist for confirmation of slides
- Keep records as to the location of all slides in possession
- Maintain and operate laboratory and surgical equipment including cryostat
- Have routine preventative maintenance performed on all equipment
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
- Cooperate with and communicate with all staff (including physicians), patients, their families, and the general public in a courteous and professional manner
- Responds to patients with empathy and positive interpersonal skills
- Respects and maintains the confidentiality of all patients, physicians, and medical information
