Patient Access Specialist @ Family Medicine/Primary Care Practice

Interview: In-person with Anastasia (Practice Manager)
Interview Prep:

  • Come prepared to talk in detail about past experiences
  • Manager will ask situational questions (i.e. How would you check someone’s insurance availability?)
  • Manager will ask about work history and reasons for leaving previous roles – it is important not to overshare and to keep things neutral (i.e. Left due to absence of leadership, felt it wasn’t a place I could thrive, etc.)

Onboarding: CORI, covid (no boost)
Screening Questions:

  • Are you familiar with checking patients in and out?
  • Are you familiar with checking insurance eligibility?
  • Are you familiar with health insurances and how HMOs and PPOs work?
  • Are you familiar with deductibles and charges on someone’s account?
  • Are you familiar with insurance referrals?
  • Are you familiar with scheduling appointments?

Location: 24 Lyman Street, Westborough, MA 01581

Temp Pay: $24-26/hour
Perm Pay: Around $26/hour, depending on experience

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts between 8:30AM – 5:00PM
Overtime available – practice is open until 8:00PM on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday OR can work 12PM-8PM

Requirements: 

  • 2+ years of Patient Access experience
  • Must have high-level experience with insurance and billing
  • Must have high-level phone skills – confident, professional, and accurate on the phone
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • EMR experience is required – practice utilizes E-MDs
  • Proficiency in MS Office

Responsibilities:

  • Greeting patients
  • Checking patients in and out
  • Enter patient information into data bases and maintain accurate records – change out any new phone numbers, addresses, emails, etc.
  • Relay information to relevant staff members
  • Inform patients and their caregivers of office procedures, policies, and protocols
  • Handle insurance and billing tasks
  • Provide patients with billing and payment information – explain to patients why they have certain bills and how their deductible works
  • Handle patient questions and concerns
  • Perform general administrative tasks
