Title: Patient Billing and Insurance Department Specialist
Location: Lynn, MA 01901 – Fully onsite
Schedule: M-F, 8am-4pm, 30-minute paid lunch
Pay Rate: $22-25/hr, depending on experience
Job Overview:
The Patient Billing & Insurance Specialist is a crucial part of the healthcare team as they are the person who works within the Insurance and Billing Department to help ensure that the Patient is getting the best care available.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Verify patient coverage and enrollment information, either using online technologies or via direct phone call to insurance representatives, to check to ensure that the procedures are covered by the patient’s insurance, and verify copay amounts and billing information that the office sends to the insurance company for reimbursement.
- Explain insurance benefits and cost of treatment options to patients when necessary.
- Accurately and efficiently processes request for denied claims information including updating and follow-up.
- Ability to contact patients and referrals to obtain any missing information or documentation.
- Enter and maintain accurate insurance information in the patient record including demographic data.
- Accurately enter claim charge information and ensure claims are sent to the correct payers in a timely manner.
- Correctly post insurance and patient payments to appropriate charges
- Run, analyze and distribute necessary reports to providers and accounting staff
- Timely follow-up and completion of all daily tasks and responsibilities
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required, college degree preferred.
- At least 3 years of experience in medical insurance and billing, preferably in the specialized area of behavioral health
- Knowledge/understanding of deductibles, copay, coinsurance, prior authorizations, referrals, etc. is required.
- Ability to pay close attention to accuracy and detail in all facets of the position.
- Self-starter with a sense of urgency and proven ability to take ownership of job responsibilities and ensure successful completion of all projects and requests.
- Must demonstrate good oral and written communication skills with strong listening/comprehension skills.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task in high volume workload situations and meet all deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills in a team environment
- Ability to manage competing and adjusting priorities.
- Ability to adjust responsibilities to accommodate a fast-paced work environment while maintaining excellent patient, vendor and staff interactions.
- Ability to interact with patients and insurance representatives throughout the day in person, as well as via phone and computer.
- Proficient in a Microsoft Windows Environment including Microsoft Office
- Understanding of Confidentiality
- Proficiency with EMR systems, particularly Lytec

You will be entitled to health insurance once employed for 60 days and you must work 30 hours per week, on average, per month to enroll and maintain health insurance through Complete Staffing Solutions.
