Project Accountant

Project Accountant Responsibilities:

  • Setup and close projects in ERP
    • Includes establishing initial invoicing milestone dates.
    • Includes inputting budgeted labor hours and material dollars.
    • Includes separating of projects into component jobs for cost tracking purposes
  • Work with team leaders to ensure timely and accurate project invoicing.
  • Track change orders and associated margins and analyze effect on overall project billing and margin.
  • Measure labor utilization and overtime by team monthly to assist with capacity planning.
  • Review margin and schedule projections with team leaders on a regular basis and work with controller to determine when an adjustment should be made to project estimates.
  • Maintain and validate forecasting models.
    • Confirm the update of invoicing milestones.
    • Track monthly forecast materials expense.
    • Track and report bookings activity and backlog.
    • Develop and track key business metrics.
    • Update actual amounts in WIP schedule at month end.
  • Month end close of all modules (AP, A/R, and job cost)
    • Manual tracking and G/L adjustments for prepayment of materials
    • Monthly WIP Schedule for Cookeville, Mexico and Dynamic
    • Maintain backlog analysis.
  • Verify and reconcile contracts and their associated costs.
  • Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in job cost entries, documents, and reports.
  • Maintaining cost accounting system
  • Assist in annual forecasting and budgeting processes.
  • Maintain fixed asset system including monthly depreciation, asset tagging, capital tracking and coding, additions, and disposals.
  • Assist with accounts receivable and accounts payable processes.
  • Calculate sales team commissions.
  • Assist with annual external and internal audits.
  • Prepare ad hoc analysis, as needed.

Project Accountant Qualifications:

A. Education and Experience

  • BS/BA in Accounting, Finance, or related field
    • 3-5 Years’ experience in related field
  • Strong computer skills
  • Advanced working knowledge in Excel
  • Working knowledge of one or more accounting software packages
  • Mathematical skills
  • Cost systems background with strong analytical skills and sound understanding of accounting principles.
  • Percentage of completion accounting experience preferred.

Interpersonal Skills

  • Ability to write in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to speak effectively

Other Skills

  • Ability to effectively plan and organize.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maximize efficiency.

Physical Demands:

  • Work in a sitting position continuously
  • Work in a standing position occasionally
  • Normal office environment
