Project Accountant

CSS has partnered with a respected commercial subcontractor with over 100 years of expertise serving New England’s unionized construction sector. Although titled “Accountant“, we are seeking an accounting professional for a leadership position reporting directly to the President. This position will bringing vital support to our accounting operations while modernizing and optimizing financial processes. This position offers significant potential for career growth, with the successful candidate positioned to potentially be the organization’s next CFO.


Key Responsibilities

As an Accountant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the financial accuracy and efficiency of our project operations. Key duties include:

  • Leading Software Transition: Spearhead the migration from CF Data to Viewpoint Spectrum software, then maintain project and general ledger accounting within the new system.
  • Centralized Accounting Support: Help unify multiple divisions into a streamlined accounting process, allowing for consistent oversight across projects.
  • Project Financial Management: Manage all project-related records, including contracts, change orders, and compliance documentation.
  • Billing and Cost Coding: Review and approve vendor and subcontractor invoices, ensuring proper cost allocation and accurate contract billing.
  • Variance Analysis: Investigate billing discrepancies, budget-to-actual variances, and project costs to improve financial performance.
  • ERP and Automation Initiatives: Assist in implementing ERP automation tools and integrating cross-platform solutions to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare reports and analyses for the CFO, President, and Board, providing insights that drive strategic decision-making.

What You Bring to the Role

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related, with at least 3 years of relevant industry experience (construction or similar). 
  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with Viewpoint Spectrum software is a must, and familiarity with systems implementation is preferred.
  • Analytical Skills: A strong analytical mindset, excellent communication skills, and attention to detail for investigating discrepancies and enhancing project performance.
  • Adaptability: Ability to handle a variety of responsibilities in a dynamic environment, contributing to the company’s modernization and growth.
