Job Title: Recruiter
Job Summary: The Recruiter is responsible for full-cycle recruiting for safety-sensitive and skilled positions within a fast-paced transportation environment. This role focuses on attracting, screening, and hiring qualified candidates for CDL drivers, heavy-duty and light-duty towing operators, diesel mechanics, road service technicians, dispatchers, and fleet support roles, while ensuring compliance with DOT/FMCSA requirements and company hiring standards. The Recruiter reports to the HR Manager and partners closely with the operations leadership team to meet hiring demands in fast-paced, 24/7 environments.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Partners with the leadership and HR team to understand and execute the organization’s talent strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning.
- Manages the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants, particularly for managerial, exempt, and professional roles; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in talent management.
- Proactively source candidates through applicant tracking systems, job boards, social media, employee referrals.
- Build and maintain a pipeline of qualified candidates for high-volume and hard-to-fill positions.
- Network with local industry organizations, driving schools, military transition programs, trade schools, and state managed employment security programs.
- Attend job fairs, hiring events, and community outreach initiatives as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
- 2+ years of recruiting or talent acquisition experience, preferably in trucking, transportation, towing, logistics, or skilled trades.
- Working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA hiring requirements (or ability to learn quickly).
- Experience recruiting safety-sensitive or 24/7 operational roles.
- Strong interviewing, communication, networking, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple open requisitions in a fast-paced environment.
- Working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA hiring requirements (or ability to learn quickly).
- Proficiency with applicant tracking systems (ATS) and Microsoft Office suites.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related experience in the field preferred
- 2+ years of recruiting or talent acquisition experience, preferably in trucking, transportation, towing, logistics, or skilled trades.
Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities over employees.
Work Environment: This position is within an office, in the car traveling to schools, trade shows, and hiring events.
Physical Demands:This position has periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer, the physical demands of standing, sitting, and walking during hiring events, and trade shows, along with walking long distances through school campuses.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: SalaryExempt, normal schedule is Monday – Friday 8:00AM – 5:00PM with flexibility for evening and weekend events as necessary. Flexibility can be required based on the hiring needs and accessibility to the candidate’s availability.
Travel:This position is a highly visible based role, that requires up to 50% travel, attending trade shows, hiring events, and partnering with statewide trade schools and technical colleges.
