Position Overview:
The Senior Accountant plays a key role in ensuring the accurate and timely financial operations of the college. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with strong knowledge of accounting principles, a deep understanding of Banner Financial Systems, and experience in higher education financial management. The Senior Accountant will work closely with other members of the finance team, faculty, staff, and external auditors to maintain financial records and ensure compliance with college policies and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:

General Accounting:
- Maintain accurate and timely financial records, including general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end closing activities.
- Oversee and manage the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Monitor and analyze accounting transactions and resolve discrepancies in financial data.

Banner Financial Systems:
- Utilize Banner Finance (Ellucian) system to process transactions, run reports, and assist in the management of the general ledger.
- Configure and update Banner to ensure proper chart of accounts, cost centers, and financial reporting structures.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any system issues related to Banner Finance.

Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of departmental and institutional budgets.
- Work with department heads to track and monitor budget performance.
- Prepare variance analyses and recommend corrective actions to align financials with approved budgets.

Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for senior leadership.
- Provide detailed financial analysis to support decision-making, including trends, forecasts, and financial performance.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of grants, endowments, and other restricted funds.

Audit & Compliance:
- Coordinate and support the annual audit process with internal and external auditors.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), college policies, and applicable regulations.
- Assist in the preparation of reports for regulatory agencies and manage tax compliance matters (e.g., 1099s, property taxes).

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Provide guidance and training to junior accountants and other staff on accounting procedures and the use of Banner.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure proper accounting for various financial transactions, including purchasing, payroll, and student accounts.
- Respond to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders regarding financial matters.

Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) preferred.
