Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Multi-State and Federal Tax Accountant to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in public accounting with experience in multi-state tax compliance, federal tax reporting, and a working knowledge of CCH tax software. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic team and manage complex tax issues for a diverse client base.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Multi-State Tax Compliance: Prepare and review state and local income/franchise tax returns for a variety of clients across multiple states, ensuring compliance with all applicable state tax regulations.
  • Federal Tax Reporting: Assist in the preparation and filing of federal income tax returns (Form 1120, 1065, etc.), including tax provision calculations and supporting documentation.
  • Tax Research: Conduct research on federal and state tax matters, keeping up-to-date on new legislation, regulations, and rulings that may impact clients.
  • CCH Tax Software Utilization: Use CCH tax software to prepare, review, and file returns, as well as for tax calculations, reporting, and data management.
  • Client Communication: Communicate directly with clients to address tax questions, resolve issues, and provide strategic tax planning advice.
  • Tax Planning & Strategy: Collaborate with senior tax professionals to develop tax-saving strategies, including multi-state tax planning, tax credits, and deductions.
  • Audit Support: Provide support during tax audits by preparing requested documentation and communicating with taxing authorities as needed.
  • Special Projects: Assist with special tax projects, including mergers and acquisitions, state audits, and other complex tax issues.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including accounting, finance, and legal, to ensure compliance and optimize tax strategies for clients.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or EA preferred).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in tax compliance, preferably in a public accounting environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of multi-state and federal tax laws, including income, franchise, and sales tax.
  • Proficiency with CCH Axcess Tax or other CCH tax software is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of tax provisions, tax return preparation, and tax planning.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to apply tax laws and regulations effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clients and team members.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented and proactive, with a focus on quality and accuracy.

Additional Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with state and local tax audits, tax credits, and incentives.
  • Familiarity with tax aspects of mergers, acquisitions, and restructuring.
  • Experience with ASC 740 (income tax provision) calculations.
