Superintendent – Commercial Construction

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Commercial Construction Superintendent to oversee and manage the on-site construction activities for commercial projects. This individual will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely completion of projects while maintaining the highest standards of quality. The Superintendent will work closely with project managers, subcontractors, and other team members to ensure all aspects of the project are executed in alignment with specifications, budgets, and schedules.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Oversight & Coordination:

    • Manage daily operations of the construction site, ensuring the project progresses according to the approved plans, timeline, and budget.
    • Supervise and coordinate all on-site construction activities, including subcontractors, tradesmen, and labor crews.
    • Review project plans and blueprints to ensure the project is completed as specified.
    • Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to the on-site workforce to maintain high levels of productivity, safety, and quality.
  • Quality Control:

    • Monitor construction progress and enforce quality standards at every phase of the project.
    • Ensure compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and client specifications.
    • Perform inspections to ensure the work meets design and technical specifications and resolve any issues promptly.
  • Schedule & Budget Management:

    • Develop and manage the construction schedule, coordinating with subcontractors and vendors to ensure timely completion of tasks.
    • Track project costs and assist with maintaining the budget by managing labor, materials, and subcontractor performance.
    • Address and resolve any project delays or changes, documenting and communicating impacts to the project manager.
  • Safety Management:

    • Enforce strict adherence to OSHA safety standards and company safety policies on-site.
    • Conduct regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and site inspections to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Investigate and report any accidents or safety concerns promptly.
  • Communication & Reporting:

    • Maintain regular communication with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients to provide updates on project progress, changes, and challenges.
    • Prepare and submit daily and weekly progress reports to the project manager.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for the client, ensuring that their needs and expectations are met.
  • Subcontractor & Vendor Management:

    • Supervise and coordinate subcontractors and vendors, ensuring they meet the project requirements and deadlines.
    • Address any performance issues with subcontractors and take corrective actions as necessary.
    • Ensure materials and equipment are delivered on time, reducing downtime and ensuring smooth project flow.
  • Problem Solving & Issue Resolution:

    • Identify potential problems and risks early and proactively develop solutions to minimize disruptions.
    • Handle and resolve on-site conflicts or issues between team members, subcontractors, or clients.

Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
    • Minimum of 5+ years of experience as a Superintendent in commercial construction.
    • Experience with a variety of commercial construction projects, including office buildings, retail, multifamily, and industrial properties.
    • Strong working knowledge of construction processes, sequencing, and scheduling.
  • Skills & Abilities:

    • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficient in construction management software (Procore, Buildertrend, etc.) and MS Office Suite.
    • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.
    • Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints, plans, and specifications.
    • Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and best practices.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Certifications (preferred but not required):

    • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification.
    • First Aid/CPR Certification.
    • LEED Accreditation (for sustainable building projects).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs as needed.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions on construction sites.
