Under the direction of the Director of Quality, the Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for planning and executing supplier quality activities, including supplier evaluation, development, maintenance, and continuous process improvement. This role plays a critical part in driving quality excellence across the supply chain.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and continuously improve the Supplier Quality Manual

  • Guide RII personnel in daily priorities and troubleshooting

  • Analyze and monitor supplier quality escapes and corrective actions

  • Participate in critical supplier reviews and performance evaluations

  • Prepare and present supplier quality metrics and KPIs

  • Monitor annual supplier surveys and certification expirations

  • Examine products to ensure conformance to quality standards

  • Perform testing using precision measuring instruments (electronic and manual)

  • Evaluate product characteristics such as color, finish, dimensions, hardness, and density

  • Prepare and analyze root cause and corrective action reports

  • Monitor incoming inspection results and manage M.R.B. data and disposition

  • Maintain the Material Review Area to ensure timely product flow

  • Conduct quality system, process, and product audits at supplier locations

  • Maintain all quality records (electronic and hard copy, as required)

  • Develop, modify, and recommend sampling and inspection procedures

  • Collaborate with suppliers to improve performance, implement process controls, and develop quality assurance plans

  • Oversee Receiving Inspectors to ensure efficient departmental workflow

  • Prepare supplier scorecards and maintain supplier risk rating systems

  • Prepare operations reviews covering Supplier Quality KPIs, action plans, and audit schedules

  • Perform additional duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

  • Strong working knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) and industry standards

  • Minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience in a similar role

  • Experience in metals manufacturing strongly preferred


Working Conditions

  • Office environment within a manufacturing facility


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, move, and transport items weighing up to 20 lbs

  • Ability to operate a computer and office equipment for a minimum of 6 hours per day

  • Ability to remain stationary for extended periods and move throughout the facility as needed

  • Ability to detect and correct errors on paper and computer screens

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally, nonverbally, and in writing
